Gokul Milk Union Election: Voter’s Note Questions Oath-Bound Voting Pressure on Leaders

A note found in a ballot box during the Kolhapur Gokul Milk Union election has raised questions over reports of oath-bound voting, with a voter directly challenging leaders over making resolution holders swear oaths for their candidates.

A note found in a ballot box during the counting of votes in the Gokul Milk Union election in Kolhapur has sparked discussion after a voter expressed strong displeasure over the practice of making resolution holders swear oaths to support particular candidates. The note directly questioned the leaders, asking, “Should we take oaths just to get your children elected?”

The controversy centres on reports that, before voting in the Gokul Milk Union election, resolution holders were made to take oaths to vote for candidates belonging to their respective panels. Reports had also emerged that, in some places, voters were urged to cast their votes according to their panels after taking oaths in the name of God. Against this backdrop, the displeasure expressed in the note has drawn attention during the vote-counting process.

The Gokul election has witnessed a close contest between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the like-minded alliance led by MLA Satej Patil. Both sides had made efforts to bring resolution holders into their respective camps. The practice of administering oaths to voters also became a subject of discussion during the polling process.

Now, a note discovered in a ballot box during counting has raised questions about the practice. Through the message, a resolution holder appears to have expressed dissatisfaction with being made to take oaths amid the political contest between the leaders. The direct question about whether voters should be required to swear oaths to help elect the leaders’ children has brought the issue into focus.
